Europameisterschaften gibt es seit 1948

Die ersten Europameisterschaften wurden 1948 bei den Männern in Rom und 1949 bei den Frauen in Prag ausgetragen. Langezeit dominierten die beiden Teams aus der ehemaligen Sowjetunion. Die Titel führen auch heute noch über die Teams aus Osteuropa.
